I have been to Thailand several times for work. I recommend to travel with at least one other person, and it is advisable to stay sober on your first night or two so you can get a very good look at the nighttime dynamics, as well as observe the other expats and how they behave and to figure out what is going on. Stay low key, and be very careful in dimly lit clubs. One way to identify the L boys is that they are typically more aggressive than the females and will approach you right away when you roll in to a spot. DONT be drunk because some of them look like the real deal. It can be entertaining to hear people talk, but I promise you, your perception is different when you are sober, so be smart. Try the food, but don't eat the bugs on a dare. 304s are all in Bangkok, so don't take anyone serious and dont fall in love. Interesting place to visit, but don't go looking for a girlfriend or wife there - you will regret it. Philipines better for that.
